Run … Find Yourself

It’s that time of the year again. Nip in the air, and sprint in the feet. Yes, we are running again, in the Mumbai Marathon, to raise funds for our furry, feathered and finned friends. Why run a Marathon? When funds could be raised by so many other means as well?

Well, for one, running is good for your health. When combined with a charitable purpose, it is good for your spirit and soul too. What is better if we could raise funds along with raising the bar on our fitness?

The motivation to train, not to give up on a sultry or a rainy day, teaches us to brave other stumbling elements we come across every day as well. It teaches us not to quit, we are not running for ourselves only, we are running for a cause.

The diversity of participants is mind boggling. Of all ages, from all walks of life. Fauja Singh, 101 years old, and still running since he first started when he was 89. It becomes a memorable experience to assimilate into this cohesive melting pot.

The event garners so much concentrated support, before, after and during the run. And even if it is once a year, for every charity, it is a time to bask in the warmth of the support.

Not all run for the finish line. Most runners run, to raise awareness for a cause near to their heart, or simply because “Running teaches us that we are capable of so much more”.

Every rupee collected, counts. Every penny makes a difference when you are running to fundraise for a cause. It’s a win-win situation and as good a reason as any to get off the couch once and for all. Because the miracle of a run is not that we finished, the miracle is that we had the courage to start.
