Beginning of June, a Maharashtra Shasan Jeep ambled up the driveway. The Forest Officers alighted with a bumper harvest of a total of 100 birds and a black rabbit with 2 broken hind legs. They were seized from a vendor who, along with 45 muniahs,5 Pahadi Parrots and 1 Ring-necked Parakeet, were carrying the birds to sell them off. While possession of Munias is illegal under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the other birds were seized under PCA 1960, for being kept and carried in inhuman conditions. While the Munias, Pahadi Parrots and the Ring-necked Parakeet were released immediately, the other 35 Love Birds, 2 African Greys, 2 African Love Birds and 2 Cockatiels were our guests till we could get most of them adopted

Since the Forest Department does not yet have a facility for animals and birds which are rescued from such circumstances, they come to facilities like ours. We have a cordial relation with the Forest Department, so we accept all these animals and birds without billing the Department. In return waiting for the much sought after Rescue Center that they have promised to build during the next 2 years.
