I Look Upon All Creatures Equally, None Are Less Dear To Me And None More Dear ( Bhagavat Gita-9.29 )

Our Indian tradition has instinctively taught us to love and respect all animals as we would love and respect man. Humans and animals are not mutually exclusive categories. To respect animal life is not considered to be exotic, religious or unreasonable anymore. In fact, each day, an increasing number of people are realizing not just the cruelty we inflict upon animals knowingly and unknowingly, but that we too are animals, only highly evolved. And being so, who but man can take it upon himself to extend a helping hand to the mute creatures?

There are almost one billion animals in our country roaming around freely in the streets, most of them having been abandoned after their purpose is served, and a very large percentage among them sick and injured. Out of this, tens of thousands roam the streets of the Districts of Thane itself. It was in 2002 that a group of empathetic people noticed the terrible and worsening conditions of stray and street animals in Thane. Although it is a giant, progressive city sitting on the outskirts of Mumbai itself, the provisions for care of these poor souls were non-existent. They had little to no access to modern medical care or aid.

Without wasting a single second, this group of people came together to build an oasis for such helpless creatures, relentlessly working to provide care and aid. As an NGO working for the cause of animal welfare in the district, we considered the existence of a primary health care facility extremely necessary in the district. These efforts finally manifested themselves when the magnanimous Dr. Nanjibhai Kimjibhai Thakker lent them a plot of land where the Thane SPCA Emergency Animal Care centre could be erected.

With the urgency weighing on them, there was no time to wait for Government issued funding or assistance. The shelter was built independently utilising private funding for necessary amenities. Today, the hospital stands proud overlooking a gorgeous garden and a beautiful turtle pool.

It can contain a vibrant menagerie of a hundred animals. It boasts of separate wards for quarantining purposes, kennel, cattery, cattle ward, a wild bird and a monkey enclosure. A fully equipped air conditioned operation theatre rests inside ready to perform emergency surgeries if the need arises, alongside a state of the art digital X-Ray unit and an Intensive Care Unit.

Our work is supplemented by our three ambulances, all of which service  the entire Thane district which spans more than 4000 sq. Kms, and on several occasions go to neighbouring districts like Palghar and Raigad.

In the fifteen years that the organization has been conducting its altruistic endeavors more than 1,50,000 animals have been treated holistically, taking into account not just whatever injury or illness that requires immediate care but also the environment they reside in. Warm, loving homes have been found for hundreds of them and alternate medicinal treatments are offered to them regularly  with excellent success rates.

We are a completely secular and non- sectarian trust having respect for all religions and races. We have employed staff from different parts of India. The only criteria we insist on is LOVE FOR ALL FORMS OF LIFE.

To keep pace with the increasing number of ailing animals and changing times, the hospital needs to continuously upgrade its equipment, infrastructure and services. As an animal welfare charity, we receive no government funding and rely on public donations to continue our noble work: rescuing and re-homing abused, abandoned and injured animals.

For Thane SPCA, which is a NON PROFIT INSTITUTION, it is possible only with the staunch support and help of its philanthropic donors and supporters.

Profoundly aware of the value of each animal, we aim at living our Mission everyday by serving our Community animals with committed compassion to relieve them of their suffering and to restore their health swiftly, scientifically and humanely while protecting and lobbying for their Natural Rights.

To become the preferred support system for any animal with any need.

To run the organization with values that will be our guiding principles for everything we stand for, say or do.
