On 4th November 2014, Mumbai marched to speak out for the last vestiges of the wild. We marched along with 133 cities worldwide, for our rapidly decimating Elephants, Lions, Rhinos and Tigers – the Keepers of our Forests. We marched in an area which has a lot of rich ivory traders and trading houses, the Mantralaya, Hon’ble the Bombay High Court, State Police Headquarters, 5 Star Hotels – all in all a sensitive zone. So we were not given permission to walk all the way.
We made up for it by gathering at Chowpatty, riding an open top BEST bus for 2 hours ,and ended with a silent march and demonstration at Chowpatty again. And we made up for our silence by bringing the city down with our Chants : holding hands in a chain and in chorus.
We are humbled that Marchers specially flew in from other cities and joined us from the U.K and the U.S. We thank the Global Organisers – for inspiring us. We thank all local organisers of all cities around the world whose posts and updates egged us on. We thank RAWW India with whom we partnered for the event, without who the event may not have been possible. We thank actor and youth icon Imran Khan who signed a petition to stop animal poaching.Thank you all.
