Police are the implementing agencies for all Indian laws. Animal activists need to ensure that the Police Department is updated with all laws, amendments, and typical case studies in animal cruelty. Helping us to do that the BPRD (Bureau Of Police Research and Development, Ministry of Home Affairs) has issued a Circular requesting Police Departments of all Indian states and U.T.s to hold sensitisation programmes of their Forces in their respective states. Thane SPCA sent a letter of request for the same to Shri Sanjeev Dayal, the DGP, Maharashtra Police as well as Dr. Venkatesan, Addl DGP (Training) and Dr. Ravindra Singal, Special IGP, Training. Under their instructions, we have flagged off a series of Police Sensitisation Workshops for the Maharashtra Police Department, the first one being held on 7th August 2015, for the Force of Palghar Dist. The authorities of Reliance Thermal Power Plant (130 kms one way from Thane) at Dahanu very kindly hosted us in their Guest House and provided us with breakfast and lunch. An intense 4 hour session, interspersed with videos on animal cruelty, a PowerPoint presentation and an Interactive Q&A session ended with a vote of thanks from Thane SPCA for the SP of Palghar Smt. Raut and her Team. This is just the beginning. On the agenda are Thane Police, Thane Rural, Mumbai Police, the Regional Police Training Colleges in a span of several months ahead. Building bridges indeed!!!
